Walkthrough, part 2: camp, lake, mountain, estate

The back half of the game, in the order that keeps the true-ending chain alive: the Mandate Encampment, the Illusory Pipa that opens the Mountain of Imprisonment, Meigu Lake’s mirror realm, Mirage Estate, and the climb up Mount Soulrend - with every boss, both points of no return, and what each ending costs.

Updated 4 Nov 2026 10 min read Independent guide

How this part differs from part 1. The first stretch of the game has a node-by-node roadbook behind it; the back half does not. English-language route coverage thins out sharply after Pangzhen, so this page is a route spine rather than a stop-by-stop log: the order to do things in, every boss and drop along the way, the Illusory Pipa assembly line that gates the Mountain of Imprisonment, and both points of no return. Route claims carry the Reported label throughout; boss names and drops are corroborated across independent guides and carry Confirmed.

The two deadlines, up front. The first point of no return is the door to Mirage Estate at the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen - the game warns you there if the true-ending chain is incomplete. The second is The Last Chance bell on Mount Soulrend. Both are spelled out again in their sections below, and the full checklist lives on the exploration guide.

The Mandate Encampment

Part 2 opens with the camp you have been circling since the valley. The outer-gate key sits in a well beside a Bell before the camp entrance - pick it up before walking up to the front door. Inside, the camp is built around a training ground, an arena, and the gate Wan Jun holds.

FightWhere and whyDrops
Wan Jun (Coppermaul)Gatekeeper fight on the critical pathThe Bashpole, which breaks fragile floors
Chief Disciple of the Seven-StarsArena fight; returns alongside Red Wraith laterThe key to the training ground
Yubi, No. 21 Swordfighter PuppetTraining-ground boss at the end of the campThe pipa’s back plate, and the Baishan Stormswords weapon

Missable here: Secrets of the Baishan Sect fails if you skip one step - before defeating Yubi, examine the body in the flower field beyond Wu Lengshuang’s arena. There is no repairing that after the fact. Reported

After the chapter’s main fight, the camp’s Three-Eyed Puppet portal waits near the exit - the second of three, the first having stood near the end of the Village of Lu. Side Tales seeded in the camp include Daughter of the Dark Sect, Xue Admirer of Heroes, and Bai Xue. If you are carrying The Undying Heroic Spirit from Pangzhen, revisit the purple-robed “Wolf” leader after the Chief Disciple fight to push that Tale forward and receive Shattered “Hero’s Courage”. Reported

One caution on 100% runs: the camp’s map tracker counts sixty collectibles, while the walkthroughs that document the camp list fifty-seven. The missing three are not placed anywhere we would cite - treat a stubborn 97% there as the guides’ gap, not necessarily yours. Reported

The Illusory Pipa assembly line

Three instrument pieces, three fights, three regions. The restored pipa is the key to the Mountain of Imprisonment, and it is the spine of this entire stretch of the game.

PieceHeld byHow to reach it
HeadDusk, the PuppeteerVillage of Lu hidden arena, entered through the mist behind the firefly temple once the Firefly’s Memory Flowers line is complete
Back plateYubi, No. 21 Swordfighter PuppetMandate Encampment training ground; the key drops from the Chief Disciple fight
StringsYan Qiansui, the Zither MaidenCollapsed Theater on Meigu Lake, after collecting all six Allure of Vanity Memory Flowers; guard her blue light orbs with parries and punish the windows when her Sha-Chi gauge empties

With all three pieces, take the instrument to Myst at the Pangzhen tavern - she restores the Illusory Pipa, and every mist barrier you have walked past since becomes a door. One sourcing note: some write-ups attribute the back plate to the camp’s chapter boss rather than the training-ground fight. The training-ground route is the one every detailed walkthrough documents, and both descriptions are true if Yubi sits at the end of the camp - this page treats Yubi as the source. Reported

Meigu Lake

The lake is the game’s boat hub. The Sha-Chi Powered Boat quest turns the water into a ring of islands you sweep in whatever order you like, and nearly everything on that ring feeds the true-ending chain. Sail the whole circle before pushing the story.

TargetWhat happensWhat you get

Blackwater Crew campYou Loong, the Frenzied Blackwater Crew Leader - the rematchLoong Trident Phantom Edge
Quick Hand Zhang hideoutRelic hand-inChain progress toward his five-hideout request

The lake also holds the game’s second mass of mist-locked routes. Once the pipa is repaired, sail back to the Meigu Songhouse dock and the village: the barriers there hide tempering materials and Blackstone shards that the boat alone cannot reach. Reported

The Frozen Mirror and the Phantom Illusionist’s realm

At the lake’s northwest, a frozen mirror blocks the region’s biggest secret. It opens with all four Acolyte Masks - three from the scarecrow bosses scattered through the earlier regions, the fourth from Crimson Manor below. Before you step through, ring the Four Guardians’ Mirror Bell beside the mirror: it drops a fast-travel point at the entrance, and the fight inside is not one you want to walk back to.

Inside the Phantom Illusionist’s realm: wooden walkways, cliff paths, the fourth Long Pillar (clear it while you are here - it counts toward Bloodline Awakening), and at the end Blizzard Blademaster, who drops the Whiteshadow weapon. After the fight, place both Crystal Puppet Eyes in the puppet statue. You are moved to a ritual site; cut down the puppet monks to end the ritual. That closes Secrets at the Heart of the Lake, one of the two great questlines of the true-ending chain. Reported

Onward: Weeping Mistgate

The exit from the lake is not a road but a performance. Sail to Weeping Mistgate, the island at the lake’s northeast, stand before the waterfall of mist, and play the restored pipa. The mist parts, the cutscene runs, and you wake in the Mountain of Imprisonment. Everything you left undone on the lake stays reachable, but the true-ending checklist only shrinks from here - the exploration guide tracks what closes when.

The Mountain of Imprisonment

BossWhereDrops

Jade-FaceThe Lady’s ShrineSeamless Death weapon
Bi Feng, Giant Saber CommanderOptional, mid-regionJuggernaut weapon; required for the true ending
Huangxing, the Kunlun RenegadeOptional, end of regionFlying Guillotine Phantom Edge - the wall-breaker

Two stops here matter more than the bosses. The third and last Three-Eyed Puppet portal stands after this region’s chapter fight - with all three visited, The Herald’s Illusion completes and points you at Crimson Manor. And when the region ends, an item called the Puppet’s Tongue opens the manor gate beneath the Sha-Chi Tower back in Weeping Creek Valley - the tower you cleared in part 1. Reported

The Crimson Manor detour

Crimson Manor is the back half’s best-hidden area: beneath the Sha-Chi Tower in the valley you cleared hours ago. The hidden boss at the manor’s base drops the fourth and final Acolyte Mask together with a Crystal Puppet Eye - the other eye is picked up in the Mountain of Imprisonment stretch, and late-game guides now agree on that split. Which eye carries the [Yin] label and which the [Yang] rests on thinner sourcing, and it changes nothing about the reward. Clear the manor before the estate: its mask is the last piece the Frozen Mirror needs. Reported

Mirage Estate - the first point of no return

Stop at the Green Serpent House door. When you bring the three Serpent House relics together and reach the door to Mirage Estate behind the Green Serpent House, the game checks the true-ending chain and warns you if anything is missing. You can turn back and finish it. Walk through with the chain incomplete and the Perfect Ending is locked out for this run. The last Long Pillar and Quick Hand Zhang’s final relics are the exception - both stay completable after the estate opens.

The estate is Pangzhen’s hidden face, and the last region where the chain can still be completed. Its fights:

BossWhereDrops
Yuding, No. 12 Crescent Blade PuppetRequired, mid-areaCrescent Blade weapon
Qiu Feng, the Crimson BonebladeMourning HallWraith Mask accessory
Mo Yuan, Leader of the Bastion of MoThe fifth Long PillarBastion of Mo Mask (tempering)
Lei Dang, the Tiger CannonRequired, end of the estateTiger Cannon Phantom Edge

Before leaving: double back near the Willow Pavilion for the fifth pillar - a scythe-swing route off the path behind it - and collect the estate’s three Quick Hand Zhang relics, the last of his seventeen. Close any purple-icon quest still open. This is the last chance any of them get. Reported

Mount Soulrend - the last region

The final climb has one required fight on the way up - The Saw and the Crusher, who drops the Bonesaw weapon - and then the game’s last checkpoint: The Last Chance bell. Ringing it commits you to the final sequence; after the final boss falls, the whole world reopens for cleanup, so the bell is less a cliff edge than a one-way door into the ending.

Before the bell, talk to Inanis and listen. If she tells you there is nothing more she can do to prepare you, your flags are set. If she warns you about unfinished business instead, that is the game telling you the Perfect Ending is still reachable - turn back and finish it. Reported

Then the ladder: Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil, and after him the story’s final boss, Meng Hua, the Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil, who drops The Lady’s Fan weapon. What happens next depends entirely on the chain you built:

OutcomeConditionWhat plays
The Showdown (the true ending)The full chain: all purple quests, masks, eyes, pillars, the Zhang chain, and the Zhu Yuan and Bi Feng fightsA gold portal opens on Soulrend Cliff. Inside waits Zuo Shang in his second form - a fight the other endings never give you. Rewards: the Aureate weapon, the Broken Long Body soul-tempering material, the Legacy outfit if you did not already own it, and the Radiant Heart story item.
AnnihilationThe chain incompleteMeng Hua rises again, mocks you, and the wulin burns.
Roar of the DragonThe lake quest done, but not all five pillarsZuo Shang kills Meng Hua and summons you through the gold pillar; the fight there cannot be won, and Soul dies on the mountain.
Day Zero66 Days mode only, when the sixty-six lives run outA grave, poured wine, and the run ends for good.

How many endings is that, officially? None. S-GAME has never given a count, and guides split between two, four, and eight. The four-outcome table above is the breakdown that best matches the conditions guides agree on; the eight-endings claim is dissected on the corrections page.

After the credits, the completed save reopens the world for cleanup, and speaking to Inanis starts New Game+ - your weapons and Phantom Edges carry over, and you can re-pick the difficulty. Reported

Questions people actually ask

What unlocks the Mountain of Imprisonment?

The restored Illusory Pipa. Its three pieces come from Dusk, the Puppeteer in the Village of Lu, Yubi in the Mandate Encampment's training ground, and Yan Qiansui at the Collapsed Theater on Meigu Lake. Assemble it at Myst's tavern in Pangzhen, then play it at Weeping Mistgate on the lake's northeast shore.

Can you still get the true ending after finishing the game?

Yes. Loading the completed save after the credits puts you back before The Last Chance bell with the world reopened - finish the remaining purple quests, then ring through to the final boss again.

Who is the final boss of Phantom Blade Zero?

Meng Hua, the Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil, is the final boss of the standard route. On the Perfect Ending route, a gold portal on Soulrend Cliff leads to one more fight: Zuo Shang's second form.

What carries into New Game+?

Your weapons and Phantom Edges carry over, and you can re-pick the difficulty when starting. Speak to Inanis after the credits to begin.
